Got the boot from a local history group for correcting a plaque date
I pointed out their memorial plaque for a 1923 fire was wrong by a year, using city archive records. The admin called it 'disruptive' and banned me within an hour. Has anyone else been removed for trying to fix a simple fact?

A local history group banning someone over a city archive fact check is just wild to me. They're supposed to care about getting the story right. Calling that disruptive says more about the admin than it does about you. I'd be fuming if they valued their pride over a simple date correction.

What if the fact check was wrong though?

Totally agree. Watch a group like that turn into a fan club for a wrong idea. They'll start making up reasons why the archives are wrong, or say the exact year doesn't matter for the "feeling" of the history. Next thing you know, the founding myth of the town is that a mayor built the library in 1912 because it sounds better, even though the stone plaque right on the building says 1914. It's not about facts anymore, it's about the story they like telling.
