Spent $40 on a VPN to post about a city council vote and still got my comment deleted.

The local news site's comment section said I was 'circumventing a geographic restriction' even though I was just using it for privacy, so has anyone else been banned for something that wasn't even the real reason?

But what were you actually saying in the comment? I've found those local news sites have mods who look for any excuse to delete something they just don't like, and a VPN flag gives them perfect cover.

Honestly that would make me rethink my whole stance on VPNs.

Spot on about mods using any excuse to delete comments they don't like. Makes you wonder how many honest opinions get killed off under fake technicalities. They probably have a whole list of ready-made reasons that sound official but mean nothing. So your real crime wasn't the VPN, it was having a view some moderator wanted to silence. Makes the whole idea of a public comment section feel pretty pointless, doesn't it?
