TIL a forum mod in a woodworking group banned me for saying pine was fine for shelves
Last Tuesday I got permanently banned from a woodworking Facebook group. I posted a picture of some pine shelves I built for my garage and said they held up fine. A mod messaged me saying I was promoting 'unsafe construction methods' and removed me before I could even reply. I guess they had a rule against softwood in any load-bearing setup but I never saw it.

Four years ago I got booted from a local woodworking forum for saying you can glue pressure treated lumber for outdoor benches. The mod claimed the glue wouldn't hold because of the chemicals in the wood. I used Titebond III and those benches are still sitting on my deck right now after three winters. It's weird how these groups pick one tiny rule and act like you committed a crime. Pine is totally fine for garage shelves as long as you don't load them with engine blocks. Some mods just like flexing their tiny bit of power.

Buddy of mine got banned from a fishing forum for saying you could use braided line on a vintage reel. The mods claimed it would snap the rod or something. He's still using that same setup five years later, caught plenty of fish with it.
