My coworker Deb said she skips the first 3 episodes of every show now
She said she got tired of slow setup scenes and just jumps into the action, and I laughed but then realized she's actually onto something since I wasted 2 hours on that new Apple series that never got good. Has anyone else tried skipping ahead and regretted it or found it actually works?

Wait, she skips the FIRST THREE episodes of every show? That's nuts, what if those episodes set up the whole reason anyone cares about the characters later?

Right, "set up the whole reason anyone cares" is exactly it. My sister does this too and I'm like, you missed the whole foundation of why the main character even acts that way. Like in The Good Place when people skip the first couple episodes they just think Eleanor is randomly selfish instead of learning why she's that way from her past life. It's not just missing a few jokes, you're missing the emotional glue that makes the rest make any sense.
