Overheard my nephew talking about old shows like they're ancient history

He was telling his friend about how he just discovered The Wire and said something like "it's so old school but still good." Made me realize that show came out in 2002. I remember watching it week by week, waiting for Sunday nights. Now kids binge the whole thing in like two weekends and call it "vintage." Anyone else feel weird when stuff from your own time becomes "retro" to someone else?

2002 feels like yesterday to me but to them it might as well be black and white TV era. The weird part is that The Wire actually predicted a bunch of stuff about the 2020s like the war on drugs failing and media fragmentation. So a show they call vintage is still more relevant than most stuff dropping on Netflix today.

Keep the video files on an external hard drive and back up the text files separately. I learned that the hard way when my old laptop died and took all my project notes with it. The drive doesn't need to be anything fancy, just a simple USB drive you plug in once a month. Save yourself the headache and do it before you need to.
