Dropped $340 on a coal forge blower and I was wrong to wait so long
Everyone says hand cranked is the only real way to learn heat control, but after 3 months of cranking I bought a $340 electric blower and my welds got cleaner in a week, so who else here runs electric and catches grief for it?
Been running electric for two years now and honestly the grief is overblown. The hand crank thing makes sense if you're doing trad stuff or you just like the work, but for plain heat control an electric blower holds steady air way better than my arm ever did. I still keep the crank around for small stuff, but the electric gets used 90 percent of the time. Learning to read the fire matters more than how the air gets there.
