My first forge weld actually took on try 4, not try 1, and I am weirdly happy about it
I have been trying to forge weld a simple billet of 1084 and 15n20 for two weeks now in my garage setup in Boise. Kept getting cold shuts because I was not getting the steel hot enough, but on the fourth attempt I let it soak a bit longer and the billet stuck together clean. It is ugly and has a little scale pocket, but it is solid and that feels like a real step. Anyone got tips for keeping the seam clean once it does take?
