Old timer told me to quench in warm oil instead of cold, and now my blades don't crack
Been quenching in cold oil for 5 years and lost at least a third of my blades to cracks until a guy named Hank at the local hammer-in said to heat the oil to 120F first, hasn't failed me in 6 months, anyone else get this tip late?

Oh man, Hank the hammer-in hero strikes again, right? Cold oil is a trap, learned that one the hard way myself with half a dozen ruined chef's knives. Better late than never, I guess, just wish someone had yelled at me about it sooner.

Follow @gavincampbell's lead and use a torch next time. Heat the oil slow, keep a thermometer handy, no more guessing games.
