Power hammer or treadle hammer - which one actually saves more time?

My buddy runs a small blacksmith shop and he swears by his treadle hammer for most jobs. But I've seen him pull out the power hammer for anything over 1/4 inch thick, and it saves him a TON of sweat on those heavy days. I'd say it depends on how much thick stock you're moving.

People sleep on how much a treadle hammer actually teaches you about hammer control versus a power hammer. @the_dakota, your buddy probably has way better hand-eye coordination from using that treadle for the little stuff. The problem is when you're trying to move 3/8 inch mild steel into a scroll or a bend. A treadle just doesn't have the stored energy to move that material quick enough before it cools down. Power hammer for thickness, treadle for finesse.
