Shoutout to the old cast iron forge I borrowed over my new gas one
I spent 3 months fighting my gas forge to get an even heat on a 5160 billet, then borrowed a buddy's coal forge in Lansing and the difference was night and day. The coal let me watch the color creep up the steel instead of guessing from sound, and my first heat with it got a cleaner soak than anything I'd done with gas. Anyone else here run coal for blades and gas for bigger stock, or do you stick to one?
