Tried a gas forge over my usual coal setup for a week, never going back now

I switched to a gas forge for a project last month and honestly the difference in heat control was night and day. I was used to babysitting the coal fire every few minutes, but with gas I just set it and focused on my welding. Has anyone else found one type way easier than the other for certain jobs?

You know a buddy of mine from the local metal shop? He swore by his coal forge for like ten years, then tried gas on a whim. He called me all excited because he finished a set of gate hinges in half the time without having to rake the fire once. Said he still missed the 'feeling' of coal, but he wasn't about to go back to all that shoveling.

Wait, you mean your buddy actually switched for good after all that time? I was on his side for years about coal being the only real way, but hearing that about the time savings and no constant tending makes me wonder. I always figured gas was just for guys who couldn't handle the work, but if a ten year coal guy can drop it for speed, that's got me thinking. Maybe I've been stubborn about the whole thing, sticking with something just because it feels right.
