Walked into a blacksmith shop in rural Montana and they had a giant anvil from 1876 just sitting outside rusting

Best thing I could do is probably trip over it and break my toe. That's about the level of coordination I bring to old iron. Rust or not, an anvil from 1876 is a solid piece of history, it'd survive my clumsiness just fine. Someone probably brought it out there to keep as a yard ornament or a doorstop. Or maybe it's been sitting there since 1876 and nobody's had the motivation to move it. Either way, I hope they know what they've got.

Honestly, it's probably just a rusty hunk of scrap worth maybe fifty bucks to the right scrapyard. Old anvils are a dime a dozen, and most of them are cracked or have been beaten out of shape by a hundred years of misuse. Better off using it as a doorstop or garden decoration than pretending it's some priceless artifact.
