I got zapped by my own porch cam for waving at the mail lady, and now I catch myself planning around bots
Two weeks ago my camera flagged me as a stranger on my own porch and locked the door for 10 minutes. I used to just walk out and grab packages, now I check the app first like it's a weather report. The weird part is I stopped doing tiny normal stuff, like waving at the mail lady cause the motion alert fires and then my phone explodes with 8 notifications. My neighbor in Fresno had the same cam auto block his garage door opener twice last month. Is it just cheap cams doing this or do the pricey ones pull the same stunt?
I had the same thing happen with a cheap Wyze cam and switching to a Eufy didn't fix it either, so it's not just the budget ones. What actually helped was turning the sensitivity way down and setting up zones so it only watches the steps and not the whole sidewalk. Now the mail lady walks by and nothing fires, but a real person stepping onto the porch still gets me a ping. Took me maybe 20 minutes in the app to draw the zones right, way less annoying than checking my phone like it's the news every time I want to grab a box.
