Vent: My coding bootcamp in Austin pushed Python hard, but I think that's a mistake for total beginners.

Last week, I spent 15 hours helping my nephew, who's never coded before, try to set up his Python environment and it was a mess of errors. Everyone says start with Python because it's 'easy', but getting the interpreter, pip, and a proper IDE running is not simple for someone who just learned what a file is. I think we should go back to teaching plain JavaScript in the browser first, where you can just open a console and see results. Has anyone else had a beginner get totally stuck on setup before writing a single line of code?

We switched from a 6-inch to an 8-inch cutter head on our old dredge in the Sacramento River delta last season. The silt load we moved in a day basically doubled.

Yeah, that's the exact problem we ran into. @shanewells, how long did it take before you started seeing the pump issues? We got maybe two months of great flow before the extra strain really showed up. It felt like a constant fix one thing, break another situation. Not worth the trade off in my book.

Appreciation post: Switched to a torque wrench for carbon seatposts after a shop in Denver showed me a cracked frame.

A cracked frame from a seatpost? That's a nightmare scenario. I've seen some bad slips but never a total frame failure. It makes sense that a set torque would help, but 5.5 Nm seems pretty low for some of the gritty paste I've used. You must be using some really slick assembly compound.

Went to a comic shop in Cleveland and the owner had a whole display case just for variant cover flippers.

It turns the whole hobby into a stock market. Takes the fun right out of it.
