At a game night in a Cincinnati library basement, I finally got my dad to play a modern board game.

Sounds like a lot of effort for a pretty basic activity. Board games are still just board games, no matter how many fancy pieces they add. Dragging someone to a library basement to play one seems like a weird way to force a trend. Maybe some people just prefer the classics and that's perfectly fine.

Honestly, got dragged to a game night like that once. They were playing this one about building a medieval farm, with wooden animals and little veggie tokens. Way more fun than I expected. It felt different from just rolling dice and moving a piece. Sometimes the new stuff adds a whole layer of strategy the classics don't have.
