Had to choose between a full Gloomhaven campaign and a shorter game night last week

Our group had 4 hours and the choice was either starting the first real scenario of Gloomhaven (which we knew would take the whole time, easy) or playing three rounds of The Crew. We went with The Crew, and honestly, it was the right call for keeping everyone engaged and not burned out. Anyone else face a big campaign vs. quick games choice with a time limit?

Our group's best inside jokes always come from those long, messy Gloomhaven sessions.

It's just a game night, not a life choice. Picking a shorter game to keep the mood light makes total sense. No need to overthink it.

Yeah but I read this article about how game length actually changes group dynamics. Short games are great for laughs, but longer ones let people settle in and build up these weird inside jokes. It's not about overthinking, it's about picking the right tool for the mood you want. Sometimes a quick game feels rushed and leaves everyone wanting more. Other times, a long game can drag if people aren't really into it. The trick is knowing your group.
