Had to choose between a full Gloomhaven campaign and a shorter game night last week

Yeah but I read this article about how game length actually changes group dynamics. Short games are great for laughs, but longer ones let people settle in and build up these weird inside jokes. It's not about overthinking, it's about picking the right tool for the mood you want. Sometimes a quick game feels rushed and leaves everyone wanting more. Other times, a long game can drag if people aren't really into it. The trick is knowing your group.

Stumbled upon an off-limits alpine meadow during my trek

Ever wonder why they build trails with all those turns anyway? I used to think it was just to make the hike longer, but seeing a spot like what simons12 described, that big pit where the ferns were, really flipped a switch for me. It's not about the trail crew being lazy, it's literally holding the ground together. Now I look at a switchback and just see a dirt wall that really doesn't want to be a landslide.

My dad insisted on building a secret room for his vintage comic collection, and the contractor thought we were planning a heist.

Honestly I wonder if the workers ever swap stories about all the weird rooms they've built.

My buddy swore by using a 40-degree bag for summer in the Smokies, and I froze my butt off last weekend.

People always underestimate how cold it gets at night in the mountains... it's like a universal thing. My cousin did the same with a cheap sleeping bag for a desert trip, swore it was fine, and we all ended up shivering when the temperature dropped. It happens with jackets too, someone will say a light shell is enough and then the wind cuts right through it. There's just this weird gap between what people remember and what actually happens when you're out there.

My backup blog got taken down last month for a post about local politics

Yeah, tell me about it. My blog got Thanos snapped over a post about a new stop sign. The hosting company must have thought local traffic planning was a call to arms. Now I'm self hosting from a raspberry pi in my closet, which feels about as stable as it sounds. At least the only one who can take it down now is my cat unplugging it for warmth.
