PSA: Watch your tack welds on high pressure steam lines

An old timer at the Philly plant last year told me my tack welds on a 600 psi steam header were 'too hot and too big, you're baking the carbon out'. He said to keep them small and cool, just enough to hold. I switched to a lower amperage and smaller tacks, maybe 3/4 inch max. My last X-ray pass rate went way up. Anyone else get that kind of specific weld advice that actually worked?

Guess that old timer saved you from baking a bad batch of pipe cookies.

Seems like a stretch. People mess up recipes all the time and the house doesn't fall down. My uncle used regular sugar instead of powdered once for frosting. It was gritty but we still ate it. Calling them "pipe cookies" makes it sound like a bomb squad situation. It's just cookies.
