Can we talk about how I used to think our club needed to finish every book?

After our group spent 3 months slogging through 'Moby-Dick', my friend in Chicago convinced me to just vote to drop a book if half the members hate it by page 100. Anyone else have a rule like this that saved their club?

Honestly that seems like a really strict rule. I mean, what if the book gets good at page 101? Dropping it feels like giving up too easy. Maybe it's just me but it's a book club, not a life or death thing.

Totally agree, that rule would drive me nuts too!

Our club tried something similar after we almost lost two members over a 900 page fantasy novel. @mia_singh24, that page 101 worry is fair but honestly my track record says if it hasn't clicked by 100 it never will. Plus I've read enough terrible endings to know suffering through a bad book doesn't build character, it just builds resentment.
