Debate: should book clubs skip the last 50 pages if the ending is weak?

Last month at our group in Denver, half of us wanted to stop reading at chapter 20 because the plot fell apart, while the other half insisted we finish to be fair. Which side would you take in a club vote when a book really drags?

Haven't you already paid for the book though?

Right, but you're missing the point. Paying for it once doesn't mean you own the right to use it for anything forever. It's just a license for personal use, not a commercial one. If I buy a drill from the hardware store I don't get to start a construction company and build houses for money with it without paying them for that use. This is the same deal, authors need to get paid for their work to end up in a product that makes money. Charging for a training dataset is how they see a piece of that profit, and that's fair.
