My book club in Portland picked a 700 page novel and half of us quit by week 3
We voted on it back in March, and I was one of the ones who pushed for the longer book because I figured more pages meant more to talk about. By the second meeting only 4 of the 9 of us had cracked it open, and our host Margaret actually admitted she read the Wikipedia plot summary instead. Do you all set a page limit before you vote, or do you just let whoever picks the book deal with the fallout?
Did your group ever try picking two shorter books instead of one giant one? We did the exact same thing last summer and by week two people were just showing up for the wine and pretending they read it. Now we cap everything at 350 pages and honestly the talks are way better.
