Shoutout to the English teacher who proved me wrong on annotations

I always thought marking up books was a waste of time and just made pages look messy. But last fall, my book club read Beloved by Toni Morrison and one member showed me her annotated copy with 30+ sticky notes pointing out symbolism. She walked me through how it helped her catch details on a second read. Now I grab a pencil before chapter one. Has anyone else changed their mind on a reading habit after seeing it in action?

Ugh hard disagree, I still think it totally ruins the reading flow and makes you overthink stuff instead of just enjoying the story.

Does it make you stop and reread sentences more often, or is it just a general vibe thing?
