TIL half my book club keeps calling a plot hole what is actually just an unreliable narrator
We did Gone Girl for our meetup at the diner on 5th and 3 people kept saying the book had holes in the twist when the whole point is Nick is lying to us the entire time. I pulled up the chapter where he admits he left stuff out on purpose and they still argued with me for 20 minutes. This keeps happening, last meeting someone said The Great Gatsby had a mistake with the timeline when it is clearly Nick telling it years later from memory. If you read it like the narrator is a camera instead of a person you are gonna miss the whole thing. It bugs me because it is not a small thing, it changes what the book is even about. Does your group ever get stuck on this or is it just mine?
