Talked to a warehouse manager in Nashville who switched from FIFO to LIFO on cleaning supplies

He said it cut their wasted inventory by 40% in just one quarter because the stuff that sat longest was never the cleaning chemicals anyway. Has anyone else found a big gap between what the textbook says and what actually works on the floor?

Talked to a rancher friend about why he stopped burning his fields

I was out near Lubbock last month helping a buddy fix his fence, and he told me he stopped burning his wheat stubble because it was killing the soil microbes. He said after 2 years of no burns, his water retention went up way more than he expected. Made me think about how small changes on one farm can add up if enough people did it. Anyone else had a conversation like that with someone who surprised you?

PSA: That guy who did my foundation work 4 years ago left a mess I just found

Last week I was digging up a dead bush in my backyard near the foundation wall, and I hit a chunk of concrete that wasn't supposed to be there. Turns out the contractor who poured my slab in 2021 just buried leftover forms and trash under about 6 inches of dirt instead of hauling it away. I paid that guy $8,500 for a full foundation pour, and now I'm pulling out rotten wood and old soda cans from 3 feet down. My neighbor said the same guy did his patio and he found a trowel buried under it last month. Has anyone else in ABQ dealt with shady contractors burying crap on their property?

A retired English teacher in my book club said something that shifted my view on plot holes

We were discussing a popular thriller last month when Margaret, who taught for 35 years, mentioned that plot holes are just opportunities for the reader to engage. She said 'perfect stories are dead stories' and that made me stop and think about why I get so caught up in finding errors. Has anyone else had a perspective shift from a veteran reader in their group?

Talked to a librarian in Minneapolis who said they hide certain local news articles from the public computers

She told me they get flagged by a filter that blocks 'controversial content' but really it's just stories about city budget cuts or police funding, and now I'm wondering how many other libraries do the same thing?

Warning: Reconsider those ultra-light camping chairs if you're tall

I'm 6'4" and bought a popular 1.5 pound chair from a big outdoor store last June, the kind that packs down to a water bottle size. The guy at the counter told me it was fine for tall folks, but after 3 nights in Yosemite the frame bowed out and I woke up on the dirt at 2 AM. Has anyone else around my height found a lightweight chair that actually holds up for a full trip?

Finally figured out why my climbing rope kept getting stuck in a redirect

Been climbing on this huge old oak in Portland all week and every time I set a redirect the rope would jam. Tried different hitches, different angles, nothing worked. Then I watched this old timer on a job site and saw he was using a snap gate carabiner for his redirect instead of a locking one. Switched it out on a limb crotch yesterday and the rope ran smooth as butter. Anyone else run into this or am I just late to the party lol.

Met a guy at a hostel in Lisbon who saved me $60 on laundry

I was about to drop $12 on hostel laundry when this older traveler at the sink showed me his trick with a dry bag and some soap. He scrubbed all his clothes in 5 minutes and hung them on the balcony. Anyone else use this method or just me?

Finally hit 50 draws without a single redline this week

I've been drafting for about 2 years now and I always seem to catch at least one thing per set. This week I did a whole 50 sheet residential job and my checker didn't flag anything. Felt pretty good ngl. Has anyone else had a streak like that or am I just getting lucky lol

Spent 4 months trying to get a bank account sorted while traveling through Southeast Asia

I landed in Chiang Mai last February thinking I could just use my digital bank from back home for everything. Nope. Three weeks in my card got declined at an ATM and my transfer from a client got stuck in limbo for 12 days. I tried opening a local account at three different banks in Thailand. Each one wanted a work permit, a lease agreement signed for at least 6 months, and a letter from my embassy. Took me four months total bouncing between Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Kuala Lumpur before I found a bank in Malaysia that let me open an account with just my passport and a local SIM card. Has anyone else wasted that much time on banking stuff while on the road?
