Stopped by a roadside pit in Lockhart and had a weird thought

Nah the dark bark is actually a feature, not a bug at Smitty's. That's what happens when you cook with post oak and let the fat render down long enough lol.

Vent: my manager said my reports were 'too detailed' and it stung at first

Ha, jokes on me because I spent six months making these elaborate reports thinking I was a star, only to find out nobody read past the first bullet point. Maybe I should start putting the main point in the subject line next time.

Watched a demo at a neurotech meetup in Austin and flipped on eye tracking

I mean, "completely change your mind" feels a little strong. I saw a similar demo once where a guy was spelling stuff out with his eyes and it took way longer than 30 seconds, more like a couple minutes, and it kept messing up on the letter "Q" because his calibration was off. So yeah, it's cool that it worked for you at that meetup, but I think people get hyped on the demo and forget how finicky this stuff still is in the real world. A lot of those setups work great in a controlled room with perfect lighting and a steady chair, but try doing it on a bumpy bus or in a dimly lit living room. I'm not saying it's a gimmick forever, but I need to see it hold up outside of a perfect demo before I start buying parts.

Swapped to microfiber rags for cleaning rails and it was a disaster

Heard a story from a buddy who used microfiber on his motorcycle chain and the fibers got wrapped around the sprocket hub. Took him like an hour with a pick set and a flashlight to clean out all the little threads. Said his garage floor looked like a cat exploded afterwards. Have you tried using a razor blade to scrape off any burrs before you wipe?

Pro tip: That $40 'cloud sync' subscription I bought for my POS system was a total scam.

lol of course it was a "cloud sync" that never actually synced. I swear these companies just slap "cloud" on anything to charge extra and hope nobody checks. The worst part is when you pay for the premium version and they still just store everything on your local hard drive like a joke. I've learned the hard way to test backups by actually deleting something and seeing if I can get it back. That "automatic sync" label should come with a warning label that says "might upload sometimes if the moon is in the right phase.
