Went to a book club meetup at a library in Portland and found out half the group hadn't actually read the book
The debate turned into people guessing the plot from the movie trailer which was way funnier than the actual discussion, anyone else have a book club where nobody does the reading?

I gotta play devil's advocate on this one because honestly, the whole "half the group hadn't actually read the book" thing sounds way more fun than a book club where everybody did their homework. Like, you said it turned into people guessing the plot from the movie trailer, that's gold right there. That's real conversation, not some forced deep dive into themes nobody actually cares about. A book club that's just recapping chapter summaries sounds like a group project at school, not something people do for fun. If nobody reads the book, you just end up talking about what you thought it was about, which is basically a game of telephone with a plot.
