Mull cloth substitute that worked better than the real thing
I ran out of mull cloth halfway through rebinding a 1920s novel last Saturday. The local craft store only had cotton muslin and some interfacing, so I grabbed the muslin and gave it a shot. I brushed on a thin layer of PVA, let it dry, and it took the spine curve perfectly without the stiffness I usually fight with. The book opens flatter now than my last three with actual mull. Has anyone else swapped in a fabric they had lying around and kept it in their routine, or do you stick to the standard stuff for a reason I'm missing?
