My press broke mid-project and I panicked, here's what saved it
Last Saturday I was halfway through rounding the spine on a 400 page journal when the bolt on my lying press snapped clean in two. The jaws just went loose and the whole thing tilted sideways, which felt like a disaster since I had all the sections stacked and glued. I ended up clamping the press body to my workbench with two heavy C-clamps and using a stack of scrap chipboard to hold the spine curve while it dried. It actually worked fine, the joint came out better than some of my earlier ones, but now I'm shopping for a replacement press. Has anyone else rigged a broken press like this, or should I just bite the bullet and get a cast iron model?
