TIL my potluck talk on glue vs thread turned awkward

I was at a neighborhood potluck and brought up fixing a worn out recipe book. One person insisted that only sewn bindings are real bookbinding, calling glue a shortcut. Another said glue is perfectly fine for personal use and saves time. The table went quiet until someone changed the subject. Where do you all fall on this?
