Watching folks at the local craft fair last weekend use way too much PVA glue on their spines. It's a mess.

Saw at least three binders there. All using a thick, wet line of glue. Ends up soaking into the text block, makes the paper wavy. One person's signatures were totally stuck together. I learned the hard way too, my first project six months ago. A thin, even coat is all you need. It just has to hold the mull, not flood the joint. How do you guys control your glue application? Any tricks for keeping it clean?

A glue spreader from the hardware store saved my projects!

What exactly was the project?

Glue spreaders are fine, but saved your projects? That seems a bit much. A popsicle stick or an old gift card does the same thing for free.
