A conversation at the hardware store made me see my neighbor's lawn differently

I was picking up some grout at the place on 5th Avenue last month and ran into my neighbor, who was buying a bag of clover seed. He said, 'I'm done fighting the dirt, I'm just going to feed the bees instead.' That stuck with me, and now the patch of white clover in his front yard looks intentional, not lazy. Has anyone else had a simple chat completely shift how you view a common plant?

My old apartment complex in Denver had a rule against dandelions. The maintenance guy spent hours spraying them, but they always came back. It made me realize how much effort we waste trying to control nature instead of just letting some things be.

Man that's such a perfect example. We fight this endless battle against plants that are just doing their thing, and for what? A boring green carpet? It seems like a total waste of time and chemicals. Your maintenance guy probably hated that job too. There's something really backwards about punishing a flower for being tough enough to survive.
