Appreciation post: My monstera finally put out fenestrated leaves after 14 months of waiting

I got this monstera as a tiny cutting from a friend back in January 2023. It just sat there for over a year with solid leaves, and I almost gave up thinking it was a dud. Then last week I noticed two new leaves unfurling with actual splits and holes in them. Did anyone else's slow-growing houseplant take forever to show its first signs of maturity?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. My pothos just sat there looking sad for like a year and a half before it finally decided to do something. So happy your monstera finally showed off, those first fenestrations are such a good feeling.

Ngl I gotta push back here. Plants are living things, not projects you gotta wait on for two years. If a pothos sat around looking sad for 18 months, that's on you for not giving it better light or soil, not some magical patience test. Fenestrations are cool and all, but monsters push them out in weeks with the right conditions, not after a year of staring at the wall. This whole "just wait and it'll happen" mindset lets people keep mediocre care habits going way too long. Water it right, give it a proper pot, and your plants will show you the love back a lot faster.
