Appreciation post: That one lady at the nursery who saved my pepper plants
I was about to give up on my habaneros cause they looked sickly and I had no clue why. She spent 10 minutes with me at the counter explaining how I was overwatering and pointed out the yellow leaf veins. Anyone else had a random stranger just fix your whole garden vibe?

Oh the "yellow leaf veins" lady basically saved my whole pepper operation too. I swear those nursery workers have some kind of plant mind reading power. They just look at a sad plant and know exactly what's wrong while I'm standing there Googling frantically. But honestly half the time I'm overwatering because I worry too much, not because the plant actually needs it. I bet that lady has seen a million overwatered pepper plants from people who just can't stop loving them to death.

My friend Sarah had the exact same problem with her jalapenos last summer. She was watering them every single day because the leaves looked droopy, turns out she was drowning them. The nursery guy took one look at the pot and asked if she had drainage holes. She didn't. He just shook his head and said she was basically making soup for the roots. She felt so stupid but he said it happens all the time, especially with new growers. Now she pokes a finger in the soil before she even touches the watering can and her plants are doing great.
