My neighbor keeps calling her aloe vera a cactus and it's driving me up the wall
She's had this plant for three years and still tells everyone it's a 'spiky cactus'. I finally showed her a picture from a plant book, pointing out the thick, fleshy leaves that mean it's a succulent. It matters because they need different care, like less water than a real desert cactus. Has anyone else had to gently correct a friend's plant ID?

Did she at least stop watering it like a cactus?

Watering it like a cactus is the perfect way to put it. My neighbor did that with a peace lily, gave it a tiny sip once a month. The poor thing looked so sad and droopy until someone finally told her it needed a good soak. Some plants just really fool you.
