Tried to repot a fiddle leaf fig and lost a whole afternoon to root rot

Last Sunday in my tiny Brooklyn apartment I pulled my 4 year old fig out of its pot and the bottom third of the roots just crumbled into black mush. Turns out the drainage hole was clogged with old perlite for months and I never checked it. Now I'm soaking the survivors in hydrogen peroxide and praying, has anyone else dealt with root rot this bad or is my plant doomed?
