Why does nobody talk about botany lovers getting so worked up over plant IDs?
At our garden club meeting, everyone argued about a mislabeled fern for an hour. I thought plant folks were supposed to be easygoing, but this was like a debate club. It really showed me how passionate people can get over small details.

It's true, that focus can spread to other things too. I've seen people get just as detailed about their coffee order or the exact way they fold laundry. It's like our brains have a setting for noticing small stuff in what we care about. The hobby is just where we let that side show the most.
