PSA: I was buttering my head joints with way too much mortar and a guy on the Temple Ave job called me out
Been laying block for 6 years and always figured more mud meant a stronger wall, so I was slopping it on thick at the head joints. This older mason named Ray watched me for maybe 10 minutes on a job over in Temple and just said 'you're pushing those blocks out of line.' He showed me a thin, even coat and my wall went up way faster and the joints actually looked clean when I struck them. Anyone else get taught to load it heavy or was that just my first crew?
