Blew $40 on a bag of fancy rice that tasted like cardboard
So I saw this imported jasmine rice at a specialty store in Portland and thought it'd be worth the splurge for a change from my usual $10 bag. Cooked it up last night for a big stir fry and it came out dry and flavorless, like eating styrofoam. Ended up tossing half the batch and ordering takeout instead, totally defeating the budget meal point. Anybody else fall for overpriced pantry stuff that just wasn't worth it?

Bought some "artisan" quinoa that cost twice as much and tasted like dusty birdseed. Never again.

Is it just me or does "artisan" basically mean they charge double for something that sits in a warehouse longer? I fell for that once too with some fancy rice. My mistake was getting the stuff with the cute hand drawn label on the bag. Tasted like old cardboard. Regular quinoa from the bulk bin is perfectly fine and way cheaper. You really don't need to spend extra for the dusty birdseed experience.
