I finally stopped buying pre-made seasoning packets after 2 years of cost math
I was at the grocery store last Tuesday and overheard this older guy tell his wife that taco seasoning is basically cumin, chili powder, and garlic at 10 times the markup. I laughed it off but then actually checked my receipts when I got home. I buy the .99 cent packets almost every week for tacos, fajitas, and chili, that is over 50 bucks a year right there. A friend of mine who runs a food pantry told me she mixes her own spice blends in bulk and it costs her about 12 cents per batch, compared to the dollar at the store. So I spent an afternoon measuring out my own jars for taco, ranch, and Italian dressing mix, and honestly the flavor is way better too. Has anyone else made this switch and found a particular spice mix that just does not come close to the store version?

Glad it worked out for you, that store markup really is something.
