My pressure cooker lid flew off mid-cook last night

I was bragging about how my $20 thrift store Instant Pot was a steal, then the seal gave out and blasted lentil soup all over my kitchen walls. Anyone else keep using budget stuff after a fail like that?

And I thought I was the only one who learned the hard way that $20 Instapots come with a ticking time bomb. Lentil soup on the ceiling is a special kind of messy, let me tell you. I still use mine for rice though, just stand way back when I plug it in now.

Is it bad that I kinda want to see what lentil soup on a ceiling looks like? Honestly, I think you've got the right idea standing back when you plug it in. Ngl, I've got a friend who uses one of those cheap ones for beans all the time and she just sets it in the backyard like a bomb shelter situation. Tbh I'm starting to think the real hack is just using a regular pot and accepting it takes longer.
