Question about stretching ground beef with cheaper ingredients
I started adding a can of black beans and some oats to my ground beef for tacos a few months back. It stretched a pound of meat into enough for dinner plus lunches for two days. My kids didn't even notice the difference, which honestly surprised me. Has anyone else tried mixing in lentils or something else to save money on meat for a family meal?

Hold up, you put OATS in your taco meat? That is wild to me. I've heard of people using breadcrumbs or crushed crackers, but raw oats sound like they'd give it a weird texture. How did you prep them, did you cook the oats first or just throw them in dry?

Wait, did you actually cook them first or just toss them in dry? Because that changes everything, you know? I've never seen anyone use oats like that for tacos before.
