Spent way too long thinking bulk spices were always the cheaper option until I actually did the math

Last week I compared the per-ounce price of oregano at my local grocery store's bulk section against a tiny jar from the spice aisle and the jar was actually 12 cents cheaper, so has anyone else found that the bulk bins are secretly a trap for certain items?

You ever have a friend who swears by bulk bins for everything? My buddy Matt bought bulk cinnamon last year because he thought it was a steal. Turns out it was old and basically tasted like dusty cardboard. He tried to use it in his coffee and oatmeal for months, finally dumped the whole bag when he realized he was just ruining his food to save like a buck fifty. Now he just buys the tiny jar of the real stuff and calls it a lesson learned.

Oh man, that is SO my sister. She bought a massive bag of bulk oregano once because she thought she was being smart. It was so old it had basically no smell or taste, just like dusty leaves. She put it on pizza and pasta for like a year and a half before she admitted it was pointless. Finally tossed the whole thing and now she just buys the little jars too. It's not worth saving a couple bucks to eat food that tastes like nothing.
