That $15 bag of dried beans felt like a steal, then I did the math
Everyone on here talks about dried beans like they're the ultimate budget hack, so I grabbed a 2 pound bag of pinto beans for $15 at a local co-op thinking I was being smart. But after soaking them overnight, cooking them for two hours, and realizing they only made about 6 servings, that comes out to $2.50 per meal. That's not bad, but a can of beans at the discount store is like 89 cents and takes zero effort, so I feel like I got played by the hype. I even tried a second batch with onion and garlic powder to make them taste better, but they still came out a little bland compared to the canned ones I usually season up. I'm not saying dried beans are garbage, but for someone like me who cooks alone and values time, the savings just aren't there. Has anyone else felt this way, or am I missing some trick to make dried beans actually worth the work?
