DAE forget to check the local grocery store for cheap meals?
I was in Lisbon last month and spent like 15 euros on a mediocre lunch near a tourist spot, then walked two blocks and saw a supermarket with pre-made sandwiches for under 3 euros. How do you guys find cheap food spots in new cities?

Ugh that's the WORST feeling. I basically just wander into the first grocery store I see now, even if it's a little out of the way. The deli section is ALWAYS the real hidden gem.

Oh man, you're totally right about the deli. I was just reading about how some of those store-made salads and ready-to-eat stuff are way better than the packaged brands. Like, the potato salad from the counter? Always has more flavor. And the roast chicken is a lifesaver when you just can't cook.

Wait, hold on, you seriously just wander into the first grocery store you see? That's insane to me. I mean, I get it if you're in a hurry or something, but I've had way too many bad experiences with random stores. Like one time I grabbed some coleslaw from a new place and it was basically just wet cabbage and sadness. No flavor at all. I pretty much have to scout places out first now, check the deli counter, see if the roast chicken looks golden and crispy. It's become a whole process. But you're dead on about the hidden gem thing, those store-made salads really do have more kick than the packaged stuff.
