I spent 3 years booking flights at 6am on Tuesdays until my cousin in Dublin showed me what she actually does
For the longest time I was that guy setting an alarm for 6am on a Tuesday because some blog told me that's when airlines drop their cheapest fares. I did it for 3 years straight, probably 20 trips, and honestly I have no proof it ever saved me a dime. The thing that finally broke the habit was my cousin in Dublin. She flies home to see her folks in Chicago twice a year, and last spring she booked a $410 round trip while I was looking at $780 for basically the same week. I asked what her trick was and it was kind of boring, she just watches a route for 3 or 4 months and grabs it when it dips, usually on a random Wednesday night. No alarms, no magic day. So I tried it on my next trip to Nashville in February and paid $188 round trip after watching it since Thanksgiving. Now I check prices while I'm eating lunch instead of at 6am, and I've stopped believing any of those 'book on this day' articles. Has anyone else ditched the whole Tuesday morning thing, or am I the only one who fell for it this long?
