Dropped the spreadsheet 8 months ago and just use 4 envelopes now, fight me
For two years I tracked every single dime in a 12 tab spreadsheet and it took me about 3 hours a week to keep up with. If one number was off by even a couple bucks I would spend another hour hunting down the mistake. Last August I got fed up and moved to cash envelopes for just 4 things: groceries, gas, eating out, and fun stuff. Everything else on autopay gets one quick glance on the 1st. I save $40 a month on average now because I actually see the cash leaving my hand at the store. The spreadsheet crowd will tell you this is lazy but I have not missed a bill in 8 months. Anyone else ditch the apps and details for something this simple?
Man, this reminds me of when I quit weighing every meal and just started eyeballing portions with one plate and one bowl. Took away all the stress and honestly I didn't get any fatter. There's something about touching the real thing, whether it's food or cash, that makes your brain wake up in a way an app never does. Sounds like you basically found the budget version of that.
