Trying to fix my own car's AC cost me a whole weekend and $200 in wrong parts.
I thought I could save cash by fixing my 2012 Honda Civic's AC myself after it stopped blowing cold. Watched a few videos, thought it was just a leaky seal. Spent Saturday driving to three different auto parts stores, buying a recharge kit, a sealant, and a pressure gauge set, about $200 total. Turns out the real problem was a cracked condenser, which I only found after a friend who actually knows cars came over on Sunday afternoon. Anyone else have a DIY fix that blew up in their face like this?

Oh man, my buddy tried to replace his own brake pads last year. He got the rotors off and then realized he bought the wrong size pads for his truck. Had to put it all back together just to drive to the store, and he stripped a bolt in the panic. Cost him way more at the shop in the end, lol.

Stripping a bolt in the middle of that mess is the absolute worst. That's the kind of mistake that turns a simple afternoon job into a total nightmare. You're already stressed, your hands are dirty, and then you hear that awful grinding sound. Now you're calling a tow truck instead of just walking back into the parts store.
