Hot take: my sister convinced me to stop color coding my whole bujo and just use one pen
My sister saw my March spread and said straight up, "you spend more time picking markers than writing." I brushed it off for a couple weeks, but then I missed two habit tracker days in a row because I didn't want to haul my whole marker pouch to a coffee shop in Boise. So I switched to a single black fineliner for a full month, and my setup time went from about 20 minutes to 6. Turns out I actually write more when I'm not fussing over which green fits the mood. Does anyone else here use just one pen, or am I going to regret this when I want to color code again?
Six minutes for setup is wild when you think about it, because that's basically the time it takes to make coffee. I did the same thing last fall when I left my 24 pack of Stabilo pens at my parents' place in Twin Falls, and by the time I got them back I realized I hadn't missed them at all. Here's the part your sister is really onto though: the color coding wasn't just eating setup time, it was eating your follow through. Every empty habit box was a tiny guilt trip about a page you hadn't decorated yet. One pen kills that whole problem, because the page is never "unfinished," it's just written in. You can always grab a highlighter later for the stuff that actually matters, like marking paydays or big deadlines.
