My friend said my bullet journal was 'too much work' and it got me thinking

We were at a coffee shop in Austin about two months ago, and I was setting up my monthly spread. She watched me draw out my calendar grid and said, "All that time just to write 'dentist appointment'? I'd just use my phone." I told her it's not just about the appointments, it's about the process. For me, the twenty minutes I spend with my pen and my Leuchtturm1917 notebook is how I clear my head and plan my week. She argued it's an inefficient system that creates extra steps. I see it as a mindful practice that makes my tasks feel more real. Where do you all stand on this? Is the setup time part of the benefit, or is it a barrier that keeps people from trying it?

Totally get where you're coming from... that setup time is the whole point for me too. It's like my brain can't slow down unless my hands are busy.

Wait your brain actually slows down? Mine just starts planning the next step while my hands are moving.
