Question about getting over the need for pretty pages

I used to spend so much time drawing and coloring my bullet journal that I never actually used it for planning. It felt like an art project, not a tool. I got frustrated because I was falling behind on tasks. Then, I watched a video where someone said to focus on use over looks. I tried skipping the decorations and just writing things down. At first, it felt boring, but I found that I got more done. Now, I've picked up the skill of quick logging, and I finish my work faster. It's a relief to not worry about how it looks all the time.

Didn't you also think it had to look perfect before realizing simple works better?

Totally fell into that trap too lol. I was overcomplicating everything for way too long before it clicked.

But making pages look nice can ACTUALLY help some people focus better. The time spent decorating can be a calming way to start planning for the day. For many, that creative process is what makes the journal worth using in the first place.
