Serious question, did anyone else notice the news blackout on the 2023 water protests in Basra?
I was looking up stuff about Iraq for a school thing last month and found almost nothing in English about the big protests there over clean water. A friend in Jordan sent me links to local news sites showing thousands of people in the streets, but major outlets here barely mentioned it. It's wild how a whole city's crisis can just not exist in our news feed. Has anyone else seen a story get totally buried like that?

Yeah, that's a really good point. It's scary how easy it is for a whole situation to just vanish from what we see. My news feed is mostly just... whatever the algorithm decides to show me, which is usually the same few big stories on repeat. Makes you wonder what else we're missing, you know? I'd probably miss a protest in my own town if it wasn't on the apps I check.

And it's not even a secret, that's what gets me. Like @faith_palmer51 said, our feeds just show the same few things. It's all out there if you look, but who has the time to dig? The news just picks the stories that fit the main plot for the week and ignores the rest. So a whole city can be fighting for a basic thing like water and it's like it never happened. What's the point of having all this info at our fingers if we only get the same small slice of it?
